Another Suspiria release

9:10 PM / DVD / Comments11 Comments

Trailer for the upcoming platinum edition DVD of Suspiria from Nouveaux Pictures:

In the age of Blu-ray, I'm not sure we need another standard definition release of Suspiria, but I'll be picking this up for the new bonus materials, particularly the commentary by Alan Jones and Kim Newman, whose track on The Bird with the Crystal Plumage was terrific.

Not a fan at all of the "Taking trash seriously" tag line (since when is Suspiria trash?), but I'm very glad to hear there's a BD release and will definitely be picking up a copy.

I don't even pay much attention to artwork these days. It's so easy to make your own.

If the trailer is any indication of the restoration work on the BD release compared to the previous Italian disc, I think this will look much better.

I just saw the artwork for this and came over to see if you knew about it. Obviously you do! Can't believe the "taking trash seriously" line - deeply insulting if you ask me.

Look forward to hearing all about this when it comes out - but they've already got my back up. Low expections!

I don't know if you see these comments for old stories, but over at blu-ray.com, this...

I've recently had the chance to spend some time with a review copy of this Blu-ray release and - having hijacked a Sim2 projector launch at the BFI and getting them to give the disc a spin through their new MICO 50 LED model on a 12-foot screen - I've gotta say, the new hi-def master is a thing of real beauty. Admittedly, I've never seen the much-maligned Italian BD (only screengrabs online, and I think we all know how unreliable those can be) so I can't do a direct comparison, but I think fans in the UK - sadly it is locked to Region B - can rest easy that Nouveaux Pictures has got the look of Suspiria right with its forthcoming release

Hmm... I'll wait and see it for myself. Or, failing that, wait and hear what someone who's seen both the new release and the Italian one has to say about it.

Absolutely! I've heard too many gushing reviews over the years for transfers ridden with EE, DNR, etc. to trust one online comment.

Look forward to your comments on the new disc, should as I suspect it will find its way to you!

I see there's a review up on DVD Times.

Michael, are you getting a copy of this one?

Bleddyn:

I've got it pre-ordered, yeah. It won't be arriving before the official release date, though.

I'll look forward to your comments. The shots with the review don't seem fantastic, but I'd value your opinion over screenshots any day of the week.
