So what's the deal with these Blu-rays? I heard for theatrical re-releases they were re-rendering everything in a higher resolution. Is that what these are transferred from? 'Cos the original films were fairly low-res, were they not?

I'll be looking forward to screencaps. I may have to pick these BDs up myself. I really love both Toy Story movies.

According to this post, TOY STORY's original resolution was 1536x922 - so yes, these new BDs are re-rendered. They haven't altered the models, textures or composition in any way, just output them at a higher resolution, a bit like switching resolutions in a computer game.

However, they also carry the modern Walt Disney Pictures logo rather than the older one that appeared on all Pixar movies up to and including CARS and, on TOY STORY, the Pixar logo (which originally only appeared at the end of that film) has been clumsily inserted at the start, which I'm not happy about.

That's a bit of a bother. Not a screamingly irritating insert, but still rather bogus.

Glad to hear they didn't revamp the textures or anything. When I heard they were re-rendering the films, I was worried they'd insert new models. Simply upping the resolution, I'm cool with that. Rare did something like that for their Xbox 360 port of Banjo-Kazooie (and its sequel), and I was happy as a clam to have the game essentially unaltered, but in widescreen and full 1080p resolution.
