DVD

SPOOKS: SEASON SIX (DVD, Contender, Region 2, UK)

The one season of SPOOKS that I don't own a copy of (I have review copies of 1-5 and recorded 7-8 off Freeview), nicely discounted to under a tenner at Zavvi, who still appear to have a healthy online presence despite having gone into administration over a year ago.

BD

THE LORD OF THE RINGS (1978) (BD, Warner, Region ABC, USA)

Those still smarting from the disappointment that is the BD release of the 2001-2003 Peter Jackson trilogy will no doubt be intrigued to hear that the original 1978 animated version looks very good.

In other news, Warner has just asked Blu-ray.com to pull their damning captures of the trilogy BDs and replace them with low resolution, pre-approved Warner images. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Either way, it speaks volumes about the company's attitude towards quality standards.

NB: The above two discs actually reached me yesterday.

I wonder if the studio's will start to enforce the copyright laws and make every blog remove screencaps from their sites ?

Warners official twitter page actually clicked to follow me which was a surprise, i keep wondering if i'll get in trouble soon but i allowed them anyway and clicked them back to follow them too. I guess they probably have an automated bot searching for the word blu ray in tweets and its not an actual person reading posts.

I loved the original 1978 animated version. I can remember shouting and screaming as a child when I was told that they hadn't made the other books into animations :)

WB, I'm speechless.

I look forward to your thoughts on the animated film's transfer. It really isn't a good film, particularly not in the scheme of Bakshi's career, but I suppose I'm just masochistic enough to consider revisiting it...

Wow, now that is funny. After years of hearing from Peter Jackson wanting the Blu-ray trilogy release to be of high quality, cut to now with Warner having to force screenshots down out of embarrassment for such a shoddy job. Other studios should take notes, how not to make an ass of yourself on such a big release.
