Szamanka Limited Edition

The fourth Mondo Vision DVD release, Andrzej Zulawski's SZAMANKA, should be out soon and available to pre-order from Amazon.com even sooner. No specific dates just yet, but the final master is on the way to the factory, so the gears are definitely in motion. You can find out all the details about the two versions that will be available in this thread at CriterionForum.org (along with a closer look at the artwork).

Please begin disposing of your Russian pirate copies now.

Looking forward to it.

I gotta say, though: It makes me sad that the limited editions of Mondo Vision's releases doesn't feature the cool artwork of the special editions. The SEs feature much more interesting artwork, in my opinion, but I always go for the LEs and do not intend on buying both.

I know what you mean. Often, when I buy a limited edition release of something (movie, game, etc.), I find myself wishing they included the standard edition inside the LE packaging, just for completeness' sake.

As for the Zulawski covers, it's kind of swings and roundabouts for me. Personally, I'm not a fan of the style of the art used for the standard editions of LA FEMME PUBLIQUE and SZAMANKA, but on the other hand I vastly prefer the standard edition artwork for L'AMOUR BRAQUE over its LE counterpart. For L'IMPORTANT C'EST D'AIMER, I like both versions equally.

That's nice of you to give your brother some publicity. I think those Mondo Vision releases have awesome packaging. However, I've never seen any of those films and I'm not sure I want to plunk down the cash blindly.

Well, Zulawski's certainly not for everyone, but if you're going to start anywhere, I'd recommend L'IMPORTANT C'EST D'AIMER. It's probably his most "normal" film, relatively speaking. Besides - Fabio Testi, Romy Schneider and Klaus Kinski? How could you go wrong with such an eclectic combination?
