Do you MUBI?

Cinema

I've set up a MUBI account. Apparently, I actually created it ages ago, back when the site was known as The Auteurs, but I completely forgot about it until one of this site's regular readers emailed me a link to my profile, asking "Is this you?"

I spent way more time than was healthy this afternoon rating films and putting together a couple of lists - Dario Argento's films (sans DO YOU LIKE HITCHCOCK?, which for some reason isn't in the database) and Pixar's output in order of preference, and I've only scratched the surface of what looks like a very multi-faceted site with a vibrant community and some quality opinion pieces.

If you've got an account, why not add me to your contacts? Please. It's getting lonely.

Toy Story 3 is wonderful. It must be annoying that the UK gets their films so late.

I just setup an account and set myself to follow you (not e-stalking), but unfortunately I couldn't send you a personalized message because I've "sent as many messages as you are allowed for right now, try back in a few hours". My complete lifetime sent message count is exactly one for the record!

I do find the preferred genre selection on these sites sort of restrictive. Where are the options for the well-known categories such as: "nubile young women simultaneously sharp-tongued, saucy and scantily-clad", "characters both chain-smoking cigarettes continuously and carefully lighting the cigarettes of others with either matches or zippos", and "something is on fire in the background while the villain or one his accessories is slowly and painfully impaled". These are three of my favorite genres, but I hardly ever see the option to select them as such.

You could create lists using those as the titles at least, Chris. I'm sure they would land a ton of fans!

The restricted messages thing is a bit odd, I've heard that from other people. I've never experienced it, so either I'm lucky or the site is using some form of "blocking" for people who haven't done much with their pages yet... perhaps to prevent spam? I dunno, just floating a theory.

Did you receive such a message/alert, Michael?

Weird that it's blocking you from sending messages, Chris. I can't say I've experienced that, but then I've only sent a couple of messages so far... and I didn't send anything until I've filled out my page quite extensively. An odd one, to be sure.

To combat spam, commenting is automatically disabled on entries older than 30 days.

Did a comment you tried to post accidentally get eaten by the spam filter? It happens from time to time. I get upwards of 200 spam comments every day and unfortunately don't have the time to weed through all of them in case something genuine ended up there by mistake. If one of your posts gets incorrectly flagged as spam, email me at m.r.mackenzie[at]gmail[dot]com and I'll do my best to retrieve it.
