What did you think of Trick R' Treat? I heard you mention in your podcast that you were going to talk about it on the Halloween special. Is that still happening? Should I just wait until then?

My thoughts, big let down. It was sold to me as being some sort of homage to 80s horror, but something about it just seemed joyless. Not because the didn't try to give it originality, but because it seemed to try to hit many marks, but did so clumsily. It missed most of them. It didn't engage me in anyway, and for the most part, I found it forgettable, I can remember a couple premises for the stories in it, but I barely remember the events or outcomes. And I only saw it last Halloween.

Too low of a rating for Trick 'R Treat, below Don't Say a Word? :(

I thought TRICK 'R TREAT was a big let-down... much to the disappointment of my co-host, who recommended it to me and thinks very highly of it. I go into why I didn't like it in quite a bit of detail in the podcast, which I expect will be up within the next couple of days, but to briefly sum it up, I thought it was devoid of atmosphere, juggled the horror and comedic elements badly, and was nothing like as clever as it thought it was.

I am said co-host and I'll refrain from repeating what I say on the podcast verbatim here, however, generally speaking for me TRICK 'R TREAT did evoke fond memories of the portmanteaux/anthology horror heritage which I totally adore. Plus I found the film a welcome change of pace to the more sensationalist and extreme 'horrors' of A SERBIAN FILM or any other slew of 'torture-porn' flicks. Ultimately, though to each his own.

I agree. With a horror market which today consists of remakes of 70s and 80s hits as well as torture porn, I was glad to find a fun anthology horror film out there.
