#1036: Winter's Bone

10:37 PM / Blu-ray / Comments4 Comments

BD

(BD, Artificial Eye, Region B, UK)

My last blind buy for a while, given my latest credit card statement. I watched it this evening and must admit I wasn't particularly taken by it. I found it to be well-acted and highly proficient in a technical sense but ultimately completely unfulfilling. I just didn't feel it had achieved anything at the end of its 95-minute running time except getting from A to B.

Mmmmm I 've got this one on my LoveFilm rental queue. Still worth a spin I guess.

Any thoughts on the PQ front Michael? I believe this film was shot with the Red One.

This film met my expectations, which were undoubtedly lower than yours, as it's not one I would have shelved out good money to see. It's just the kind of film you'd expect critics and award-givers to like. Like THE SOCIAL NETWORK, I'd probably say it's a good film but not great cinema, though Fincher told a more interesting story.

It's a brilliantly acted film, but the way it approaches the redneck omerta quickly grows very, very tedious. I was so numb to the misery porn by the end that none of it had any lasting impact for me.
