Yay for Ponyo. That movie had me grinning from ear to ear for 95% of the running time.

I recently saw Conviction and Never Let Me Go. The latter has to be one of, if not the most, depressing movies I've ever seen. I had man tears going by the end of the film.

Conviction has several knockout performances. I'd expect to see some nominations go that way.

I actually saw both 6 and 7, but both came out in 2009/2008 by my calendar so I had to exclude the both of them.

I found both of them decent, but neither was quite up to the standard I'd hoped. "7" in particular had some impressive technical qualities but just felt like it lacked much of a personality of its' own (a quality you mentioned yourself. It's certainly not "bad", but it was a return to form for the studio, which includes both the positives and the negatives that form has by its' very nature.

As for "6", it's a charming and beautiful piece of work, but it bored my wife silly, and that's unusual for the director in question. I certainly liked this better than his previous film, and while it doesn't strike me as quite as iconic or inventive as some of his other works (not just "earlier" works either), it's still very solid and charming in a way that the dying medium is sorely lacking in these days.

I'm frustrated to admit I've not seen any of your top 3, but there's another dozen films on top of that I hoped to see before the year was out. There's just so many films, and so few hours in a day...
