#1055: London Boulevard

BD

(BD, Entertainment in Video, Region B, UK)

This title has the distinction of being my first ever Entertainment in Video BD.

EIV and their theatrical wing, Entertainment Film Distributors, are a British distribution company who at one point put out all New Line's titles in the UK and were renowned for their tasteless, tabloid-style cover art. Nowadays, things have changed somewhat. The tabloid influence is still there in the prominent quotes from The Sun and Daily Star (but then again you can find quotes from these gutter rags on the covers of BDs from pretty much any distributor), but it's more muted now.

Perhaps more significantly, the rights to the New Line library have reverted to Warner in the UK, depriving EIV of a heck of a lot of titles, meaning that nowadays they're more likely to put out independent features such of this, the directorial debut of KINGDOM OF HEAVEN and THE DEPARTED writer William Monahan. It's based on the novel of the same name by Ken Bruen (which I haven't read) and, as its title implies, it's something of a contemporary retelling of SUNSET BOULEVARD. Should be interesting.

Sunset Boulevard is a fabulous film, great script.

I'm wondering about a site, it's called http://pics.hondz.com, i went there after seeing my site mentioned in Google and noticed they seem to be stealing images and full posts, anyways i have tried disabling hotlink but i'm still seeing the images from my site, i noticed your site listed and hotlinking banned, could you possibly do me a favour and just put the link below in your browser and tell me if you can see images from my site, i am wondering if my hotlink is working or if i have a cache issue in the browser. ( which i tried clearing )

It's bloody annoying when people try and steal your entire posts and bandwidth.

Yeah, I'm seeing a whole bunch of pictures from your site. Maybe the hotlink blocker takes a while to become effective on your server?

The customer service guy at InMotion Hosting says they are blocked and he doesn't see any images at that site, yet i see them, hmmm something is up, i'll give it a day.

Can i ask how you configured your hotlink protection, by that i mean did you need to do anything unusual to get it to work, i have mine set up with the sites i wish to be able to see the images and allow direct requests switched on , i switched that on because i read Mac users cannot access pics otherwise.

I fixed it now, the .htaccess files created were being put at the bottom and i needed to move the code to the top.

How did you add the image saying no hotlinking, is that the redirect link. ?

My host uses cPanel X, and setting up hotlink protection and an image to display if someone attempts to hotlink is simply a case of clicking "Hotlink Protection", choosing which file types (.jpg, .gif etc.) to protect, and providing a redirect URL for the "no hotlinking" image. In my case, because I've protected all .jpg files, I gave the image a .jpeg suffix, which I don't otherwise use (otherwise you'd just get stuck in a loop, with the "no hotlinking" image itself being denied).

I get upwards of 200 spam comments every day and unfortunately don't have the time to weed through all of them in case something genuine ended up there by mistake.
