BD

(BD/DVD/digital copy combo, Universal, Region ABC, UK)

Heard very mixed things about this. This should probably have been a rental, but I actually pre-ordered it ages ago and completely forgot about it.

Loved this. The story's not Shakespeare, but the very eccentric European flair mixed with some great action and music made it a unique and entertaining experience. And Saoirse Ronan's a far better and more compelling actress than almost any of the current Hollywood output.

All I'll say at this point is (pretty sure we'll get to this one on the podcast)... Up to 41 new 2011 releases watched so far and this is undoubtedly my No1 film of the year so far. Cue INCEPTION sized discrepency of opinion, lol!

No disagreements from me. I watched it last night and enjoyed it very much indeed. After a not entirely promising start it gradually became progressively weirder, culminating in the utterly bizarre Grimm's cottage climax. If we're talking UK 2011 releases, then BLACK SWAN pips it to the post, but if we're going by release date in country of origin (making BLACK SWAN a 2010 film), then I'd agree with you, HANNA is number one. Then again, I haven't seen anything like as many 2011 films as you, so who knows what my list will look like by the end of the year?

At this stage we appear to closer together in our 'films of the year' list making as I currently have BLACK SWAN at number two just behind HANNA. Realy looking forward to recording the Top 10 Film of 2011 show already, lol!

Plus, there's plenty of time to catch up as up until about a month ago I hadn't even watched enough new releases to make a Top 10 list, ha! ha! Just had a mad blitz on cinema trips and BD rentals to catch-up. Also attending FrightFest helped a lot as I saw 16 new releases over the 5 days.

What did you think of it this year? Not one of the best, I thought... too many UK/US films, I miss the days when we'd have loads of films from around the world and the one or two dodgy UK films would be relegated to graveyard spots. Not that I have anything against UK cinema in principle!
