Signing off

5:13 PM / General / Comments5 Comments

Tomorrow, I'll be heading down south for a three-day scriptwriting course in Elstree. I'll probably be without internet access during that time and in any event am unlikely to have time to post anything. So, see you on Friday!

Sounds exciting! Never knew you were trying to delve into the creative (and not just analytical) side of film making. Curious to know more some time.

It was terrific. I'm not entirely sure how much of the content I can actually divulge, given that it was primarily geared around the BBC's mainstream drama series and thus focused on their inner workings, but basically we spent the three days learning how to apply the structural tools we learnt in Part 1 of the course (back in February) to multi-protagonist stories - pretty essential stuff, given that virtually all TV drama is multi-protagonist and that's the sort of writing I'm trying to break into. As is always the case with these things, I was clearly the least experienced person on the course (I got the impression everybody else was already employed at the BBC, if not as a writer then certainly as a script editor, researcher etc.), which is always a little intimidating, but these are fascinating and incredibly useful, and I'm extremely fortunate to have found myself in a position where I'm invited to attend them - starting with the CASUALTY shadow scheme last May.
