Happy Halloween!

Spine-tingling seasonal greetings to you, faithful readers! Tonight's spooktacular viewing aboard the HMS Whimsy shall consist of:

Scream 4 The Descent Wake Wood

SCREAM 4 (Wes Craven, 2011) - Despite the negative word of mouth, I'm doing my best to keep an open mind about this one.

THE DESCENT (Neil Marshall, 2005) - One of the best horror movies of the last decade, I have a sneaking suspicion I may need this to cleanse myself after SCREAM 4.

WAKE WOOD (David Keating, 2011) - The latest from Hammer. I believe Mark Kermode had some nice things to say about it on his Radio 5 show.

Thought it might be worth mentioning that some Mondo Vision titles are going for real cheap at Horror Movie Empire right now (though dunno for how long):

I've ordered from there a few times; they're legit.

I really enjoyed Scream 4! Sure it was unnecessary... but it was still fun, imo. The most brutal of the four if I recall correctly.

The Descent is of course, a classic.

Still haven't seen Wakewood!!! Wish I had planned to do so this evening (or this past weekend even).

Haven't seen Scream 4, I'm not a fan of the franchise at all. I have seen Wake Wood, interested to see what you think of it.

After the Frightfest all-nighter on Saturday, I really can't be bothered to watch anything much tonight. I do have the thoroughly rotten Halloween Resurrection on the TV, though.

I don't think Scream 4 was anymore disappointing than part 2 & 3, which might not say much...

Scream 4 on blu looks good though, kills the other three in PQ.

Ain't really saying much. :( Shame the Blu-ray for the first film looks so poor. Thankfully it was my friend who plunked down the money for that one and not me.

To my untrained eyes I thought SCREAM 4 looked quite flat or 'soft' compared to other modern films on blu. I watched SERENITY prior to SCREAM 4 on BD for example and the difference was immense.

Scream 4 was shot Panavision scope while Serenity was shot Super 35, different film stocks too and different style of cinematography.

I don't think you can compare them, better to compare the cinematography of the previous Scream films to this one.

Thanks for the clarification fella. That makes a lot of sense.
