I was considering getting this at $17. I haven't seen the first, though...

I watched it just before making this post, and it's... er, well, you'll have to wait for the podcast for the full review, but for now let's just say that in my opinion Pixar's 15-year uninterrupted winning streak is finally over.

I didn't like the first one much... and when I heard this one announced I think a tear formed in the corner of my eye. What gives, Pixar?

It's a bad film?

Calling it bad would be going a bit too far, I think. It's most assuredly not a good one, though.

I got the UK version for 7 quids in Amazon's BF deals. I was actually disappointed big time by Toy Story 3 and always hated Monsters Inc. so am not in the same place as you, i.e. about to fall off a cliff if I dislike! Will be intrigued to hear why you feel it's a fail, though.

I had feared the worst going in after hearing an upsurge in negativity toward Pixar and this sequel in particular in 2011. Relieved to say that I didn't find it as terrible as some people suggested albeit if I do agree that it is undoubtedly a significant step-down from the masterworks Pixar have been putting out over the past decade or so. Most pleasing aspect of the film was that Lightning wasn't the star. Not a fan of either his character or the voice actor Owen Wilson.

Plus my wife absolutely loved it and was literally rolling about laughing at some of Mater's lines... Michael Caine's car: "Mater, you're good in the field?"/ Mater: "Well, yeah! I live right next to one." Went down a storm in chez-Fosco.

Although the moniker of Emily Mortimer's character 'shitwell', I mean Shiftwell was an awful decision intentional or otherwise. Plus I could've done without the whole "You're the bomb... No literally you're the bomb!" Nonsense between Lighting and Mater during the finale.

Look forward to discussing both CARS and this sequel on the upcoming Movie Matters podcast.

Who actually wanted a sequel to Cars?

The money men, I'd guess. The first CARS was a merchandising jackpot.
