#1157: The Woman in Black

4:10 PM / Blu-ray / Comments4 Comments

BD

(BD, Sony Pictures, Region A, UK)

I went for the US release because I want to see the whole film, thank you very much. This is one of the year's two high profile "cut in the UK to get a 12 rating" films, a shameless bit of money-grubbing collusion between the distributors and the British Board of Film Censors. ("Hey, we'll tell you what to cut so you can get more bums on seats!") The other is THE HUNGER GAMES which, never forget, you can watch uncut in Communist China but not the UK.

The BBFC website says they passed this uncut for home video, if it's cut then it's not because of censorship reasons it's because Momentum took the decision to release it with the lower 12 certificate, in this instance i blame the distributors more than the BBFC.

The fact is the law was changed to allow more than one version to be released on home video, that's why we now get extended editions and most
( not all ) releases are now uncut when it comes to the home version, in this instance if it's only available in the censored 12 version then it's the distributors fault.

I was enjoying this movie until they decided to add the scene of Arthur diving into a bog/marsh and dragging a long-buried horse-drawn cart to the surface through thick clogging mud, so that it could be pulled clear...

I just picked up a Toshiba BDX3200, so won't have to worry about missing out on the best/uncut releases of films any more (unless it develops the stuttering problems of the BDX1200...).

One of the first targets is The Walking Dead s1, only available uncut in US & Canada, both A locked. I believe the s2 UK blu will be uncut, but I have my eye on that screwdriver zombie head release :p
