BD impressions update

BD Impressions

It recently came to my attention that the BD impressions captures uploaded to imgPlace had, at some point, started being rescaled to around half their intended size, completely removing the point of uploading full resolution captures in the first place. I've just spent the last couple of hours transferring all the images in question over to ImageShack, which doesn't suffer from these limitations. As a result, the affected captures should now be displaying correctly once again:

I suspect I'll be using ImageShack for all my full resolution captures from now on, with the exception of ones that contravene the terms and conditions... like ones with tits in them. Prudes.

Any reason why you are not using your web hosting ( LD ) for the images anymore, is it a bandwidth reason. ?

It's a combination of bandwidth and server space, basically. I could pay extra for one of LDHosting's more premium accounts, but a basic ImageShack subscription ($2/month) will probably end up being more cost-effective in the long run given that they have no limits on the amount of space you use. Uploading and linking to the images is more of a pain, though, I'll grant you.

Bit more of a pain to upload & link to, but more money in you pocket for blu-rays must make it worth the effort? ;)

By the way the Moviextras thing has been pushed back to the 12th, so there's still some time to find points to add to an account.

Regarding BD impressions, did you have any insight about the recent german edition of Argento's Four flies (Vier Fliegen Auf Grauem Samt) ? How did it compare quality-wise to the UK version ?
I'm curious about the master used for this new incarnation, but unfortunately, it's not cheap at the moment. At least, the BD cover is a vast improvement imho...

Whoops. I had meant to tell you that imgPlace went all shitty, because I had a lot of 2048-pixel scans uploaded there that are all super tiny now. Oh well, you realized eventually, ha ha.

Trucide: I'd asked Michael about that and I believe he said it's on the way and he'll do a comparison when he has it.

Speaking of screenshots, a member of the blu-rayDOTcom forum did an Aristocats comparison of DVDs, the blu-ray, an HDTV rip and a trailer (from a Disney blu-ray I think);

I could just about live with the heavy cropping from the OAR (http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/2215/vlcsnap2012062912h43m30.png) if the blu-ray looked like the trailer;

but sadly the blu-ray looks like this;

What Chris said - my copy's on its way but hasn't reached me yet. There will be a comparison before too long, I hope.

David:

Thanks for posting that. It's depressing to think how much more film-like the BD could have looked. The trailer was obviously cut from the same master used for the previous DVD release, and (cropping aside) is the most satisfying-looking of the bunch.

I've said it before, but I wish Disney would see the light and that this whole "scrub the grain so you can better see what the original artwork looked like" approach is completely wrong-headed. It's been reported that Hayao Miyazaki had some less than complimentary words to say about this sort of thing - I wish he could be persuaded to head over to Burbank and slap some heads.
