Happy birthday, children

These magnificent beasts are ten years old today... and they have absolutely no idea.

They always strike me as having too much skin for their bodies... Happy birthday to them.

They are very gentle creatures, actually, although they do bark at anything that moves. I suspect they would be scared of your cat.

I've known some Basket Hounds, and I must say, they were absolute sweethearts.

Glad they're still healthy as pups - and just as cute, too.

Ha, you wouldn't believe the cocktail of drugs the female, Sophie, is on in order to keep her ticking... or the vet's bills. She has chronic bronchitis, skin allergies, is missing the tear duct in her right eye (so we have to lubricate it each day) and can barely walk on surfaces other than grass. Still, she's had most of these ailments since she was a puppy so in many respects she's healthier now than she's ever been.

My family had a couple of Basset Hounds when I was little. They were so much fun to play with. They really are gentle creatures and great pets to have.
