Agh. Jealous.
I'll be getting The Game in the next Barnes & Noble 50% Criterion Sale, but I'm gonna wait on Indy until I can get it for $40 or less.

Don't tell me, THE GAME is locked to region A :(

Man, I should have invested in a region-free player back when I actually had spare cash, lol!

Is that Indy set the limited edition or standard and are there any discernible differences between the two sets (like the recently two-tier release of PROMETHEUS on BD where the tag 'special edition' has been tagged onto the 3D version as it now contains superior extras to that of the standard 2D blu-ray)?

Man, all these variants remind of DVD. Thought we were past all this blatant double/triple dipping.

Nice.

I'm waiting for the "Prometheus" 3D+2D blu-ray to arrive. I have no interest in 3D but that's the only way to get all the extras (thanks Fox -_-).
And once I've watched it I'll be able to listen to the podcast about the film you made a while back.

I've also got the US DVD release of "The Snowman" on the way, when I learned that Universal were again using the cropped 16:9 ratio for the upcoming blu-ray release, I thought I'd just opt for the original 4:3 on R1 DVD (think the UK has only had 16:9 DVDs). I bought it in the bundle with the US butchered/sanitised version of "Father Christmas". Thankfully the UK DVD is 4:3 so I picked that up, bloomin marvellous.

I recently got another animation, the blu-ray release of "The BFG". Was the first time it has been released in its proper 16:9 ratio. Has been cropped to 4:3 all these years. A warts & all transfer, not a Disney scrub job. It looked pretty good to me.

Haven't ordered the Indy set yet. Am still fuming over the prospect of re-buying the dire Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (buying it once already, seemed like more than enough).

Re: David S. H.

Do let us know your verdict of PROMETHEUS as I'm always keen to hear what others make of this interesting but flawed film.

If you do go back and give the podcast a listen, bare in mind we'd both just seen the film at the cinema and are offering our immediate reactions: we'd not seen any additional material and whilst I've still to see the alternate beginning and ending one would assume they'll address some (then again who am I kidding, probably just marketing nonsense)of the films plot holes. But regardless nothing can hide the fact the film was made from a script that just wasn't good enough in my opinion.

Yep, I'm afraid THE GAME is Region A. There's a UK release, but it can't compete in terms of extras or, more importantly, picture quality.

Got your email about PROMETHEUS, by the way. I noticed that too and cancelled my order of the 2D one for the 3D version with the additional extras. I'm not fussed about the 3D, but I'm more willing to pay extra for the extras (heh) on a Ridley Scott film than I would be for virtually any other filmmaker. Not that I'm particularly thrilled about it, mind you.

The Indy set is just the bog standard edition. I picked up the US version but, only a couple of days after it had shipped, discovered that the cuts to the UK version have finally been waived - a major bummer as the US version cost more and had an extortionate customs charge thrown in for good measure. My mistake, ordering from Amazon.com as a gift and expecting them to be true to their word and not include the item's value on the packaging. Won't be making THAT mistake again (though I'm now expecting a hefty fee for the Bond set that's also on its way).

When you ordered the Indy set ( selling for £40 in Tesco ) did you put your name as the recipient of the gift and pay for it using your name or did you put someone else's name, i ask this because i ordered a book for someone as a gift and it came without the price mentioned on it, mind you that was Amazon UK, not Amazon USA.

What did customs charge you and did the post office throw in an additional charge. ?

Yeah, I put my own name on it - that was probably the mistake. They did include a piece of paper inside saying "A gift from Michael Mackenzie", though - thanks, Mike. :P

The charge was about £16 in total, of which more than half was the Royal Mail's "handling fee". To be honest I don't even object to paying the VAT in principle - if I'd bought it in the UK I would have had to - but £8 just for the mail company to "handle" the disc is a joke.
