Yep, it's the US release - clue's in the lack of a hulking great BBFC logo on the front. ;)
Not sure when I'll get round to rewatching it yet - I hope to make it a double bill with ALIEN so it's dependent on my having a decent stretch of free time.

This is one of the best looking movies I have ever put on my TV. It makes a great demo for my home theater. The special features disc is great, and the commentaries clarify a lot of the confusing elements of the movie.
It's a shame the movie itself isn't better (it's not bad, though).

This must be one hell of an informative commentary to make sense of that script :)
I'm really looking forward to hearing the Scott track as his are always great but I'm very interested to hear script writers Spaihts and Lindelof clarify just what the hell they were thinking: especially in light of the fact several aspects of Spaihts first script (pre-Lindelof) tinkering) sounded superior in bringing about several of the films key developments.

Yes, the commentaries are very informative, and tell us exactly what the writers' intentions were at the time. They tell us which plot elements are supposed to be ambiguous, and which ones aren't. In fact, the commentaries made me warm up to this movie a bit more, even though viewers shouldn't have to rely on a commentary to make sense of a movie.
But yeah, as far as extras go, this is one of the best Blu Ray sets you will find.

I haven't seen the film but i wonder if we will see an extended cut, so much left out, it's made $400 million worldwide and a sequel is in the works, this one was specifically filmed in 3D and i'd like to see it in that format, please let me know how well it works when watching in 2D.

Fox wanted Scott to do an extended cut but he refused (as with GLADIATOR, HANNIBAL etc., the theatrical version is his director's cut), so it looks like the deleted scenes are all we're going to get.
I've taken a quick look at the two versions (2D and 3D). The 3D version is markedly inferior with a "low resolution" look that manifests itself in the form of aliasing on diagonal edges. The 2D version is stunning. If I get the chance I'll post some pictures before too long.

Regarding the 2D/3D differences, i was thinking more along the lines that since Mr Scott shot this for 3D that some of the camera angles and certain shots might not work as well when viewed in 2D, having said that i did watch Avatar in 2D and had no problem with it.

I was thinking you could probably watch in 2D and check out some of the camera angles, maybe tell from the 2D edition if shots aren't looking so good when viewed in 2D, i think Ridley probably shot it with depth in mind, i personally prefer depth with some pop out moments to my 3D films.

It looks great but there is a lot sharpening/edge-enhancement which I noticed in a lot of scenes - hope that isn't creeping back in to disc production. It must be more noticeable on big screens.

BOSQUE:
Any scenes in particular? I've admittedly not been through the whole disc, but from the brief glances I've taken I haven't spotted anything that looks like edge enhancement. There is some ringing during the opening credits sequence, but I remember that from the theatrical screening I was at, so it looks like something in the photography itself or else something done in post, rather than a problem with the BD.

I didn't see this in the theatre and hired the disc for a night so don't have a copy to hand, but as I recall it looked like edge-enhancement around David's head during the early scenes where he is alone and walking among the sleeping crew. As usual, if edge-enhancement is present it can be seen when a figure is high-lighted against bright overhead lighting. If it is indeed something in the photography it would be a relief.

I doubt it's in the photography, more likely applied to the digital intermediate as i doubt Fox sharpened it for the home.

BOSQUE:
I've just taken a look at the sequence you mention and can see absolutely nothing that could possibly be construed as edge enhancement. In fact, I'm inclined to call it the single most impressive BD presentation I've ever seen of a digitally photographed live action film. Are you absolutely sure there's nothing in your setup that could be adding sharpening? Is the display calibrated?

16. bosque said:
I confess my set is not calibrated but until now I believed it did not add sharpening effects to image, good transfers usually look good on my display. But if you cannot see it on your display I will take it that it probably is mine which is in some way faulty.

I can't honestly believe there is any sharpening in the picture. Although this movie was finished in 2K, it was shot on the RED Epic camera. That's 5K and a hell of a lot of MTF resolution. There would be no need to edge enhance anything.

Watched the 2D Blu-ray of this last night and the image transfer looked nothing short of spectacular: more vivid and defined than I remember the projected image of the film being when I saw it at the cinema.

I watched the entire FURIOUS GODS documentary the other night... aside from the hour or so of every part of the cast and crew stopping to fellate Ridley Scott and see how many times they could use the word "vision", I thought it was pretty good. :P
Fascinating to see the cliff-notes version of it having, indeed, been conceived from the start as ALIEN 01 (as written by Spaiths), but that it was quickly marginalized into a new species entirely by Lindelof. Having read some interviews with the former where he talks about many of the things dropped from the finished film, I feel like a lot of the beats in the finished PROMETHEUS had their genesis in a context that would lead right back into Alien almost seamlessly, but the higher-ups at Fox decided a new franchise with just enough fanservice to Xenomorph fans could be milked even better.
Don't get me wrong, when PROMETHEUS is actually carving its own path as a psuedo-religious symbolic Science Fiction story, it's actually pretty cool. It's just too bad it keeps reminding fans of the franchise that spawned it how painfully close it was to actually explaining the Xenomorphs existence, instead of merely teasing us with further questions that actually make the original film make even less sense for it.
