It’s been hard work keeping quiet about it, but the cat’s finally out of the bag: today, Arrow Video announced their upcoming slate of Blu-ray releases for the month of October, two of which will feature visual essays from yours truly in the same vein as my BLOOD AND BLACK LACE piece from earlier this year.

The first of these, “Dolls of Flesh and Blood: The Gialli of Sergio Martino” will accompany YOUR VICE IS A LOCKED ROOM AND ONLY I HAVE THE KEY in its high definition debut, and will cast a critical eye over Martino’s contributions to the giallo, with a particular emphasis on the aforementioned YOUR VICE…

The film will be released in a very handsome double feature with Lucio Fulci’s THE BLACK CAT. Pre-order here.

The cream of the crop, however, is arguably the brand new 4K restoration of Dario Argento’s DEEP RED, replacing the substandard vacuum tube transfer used for the initial Arrow (and Blue Underground) release from 2011. As if the fact that this classic will finally be getting the presentation it deserves wasn’t cause enough for celebration, I’ll also be contributing a visual essay entitled “Profondo Giallo”, putting the film under the microscope, from its origins in Argento’s “Animal Trilogy” to the 1975 masterpiece itself. Pre-order here.

As you can probably guess, I’m going to be busy for the immediate future!
